I had extremely high hopes for Saven Deception. While it didn't necessarily live up to my high expectations, I did enjoy myself while reading it.
The premise of this novel is what first drew me in. I think the last time I read a book about aliens was the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. What made the plot disappointing at times was the execution of it. My main issue is that the synopsis should never have revealed that Logan was an alien. Sadie only discovers this after halfway through, and the reveal would have been so much more impressive. I wished I didn't know this was an alien book before going into it so that I could have been surprised. The setting itself saved the book for me. I loved the idea that all the characters were living underwater. It made the story much more dynamic and was a key factor in the climax of the story. The scientific aspects and setting of the book is what kept me going when I wasn't enjoying myself as much as I wanted.
The scenes between Sadie and Logan were always dynamic. They never seemed flat to me, unlike some of the secondary characters. I would love to see more scenes between Sadie and Logan where there isn't something wrong happening. The angst and the will they won't they or their relationship did become a bit taxing at times. I was tired of them fighting for more than half the novel.
The world building was solid throughout Saven Deception. There was never a time when I felt confused or needed more explanation. I am interested in exploring the world more. The politics within Saven Deception was also interesting as well. I don't know about you guys, but I love political intrigue in books I read!
While Saven Deception wasn't the best novel I read, it did keep me interested. The world building was solid and the setting great. The secondary characters fell flat, but Sadie and Logan were dynamic. I would be interested in reading the sequel!
