The Friday 56 with Book Beginnings! No. 8

Hey everyone and welcome back (or to!) to my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'll be participating in Friday 56 and Book Beginnings. They are hosted by Freda's Voice and Rose City Reader, respectively.

The rules are simple for both. For the Friday 56, we turn to page 56 or 56% in our e-reader and highlight a passage of any book! Book Beginnings is where you feature the first sentence (or so) of a book and give your thoughts and impressions.

Friday 56
So this is a pretty silly quote, but it's on page 56 of Brave New Girl by Rachel Vincent. The two main characters are not allowed to talk to each other, and yet Trigger continues to talk to Dahlia. He brings her a carrot from when of his missions outside the city, which Dahlia will never leave. As I'm writing this (on Thursday), I'm almost done with the book. It's not the best thing ever, but I am having a lot of fun with it!

Book Beginnings

This is the opening line to Diary of a Teenage Jewel Thief, written by Rosie Somers. I just got this through Netgalley, so keep in mind that not all quotes are final. The novel opens up with our protagonist, Marisol, scaling up the side of museum to steal one of their jewels. As you could probably take from the title, Marisol is a jewel thief. The opening really hooked me in, and I read 30 percent of the book in one sitting. I hope to finish the rest by tomorrow. Also, this image took SO long to make, and I'm so proud (too the point of it being too much) of it. I had to use two different and new to me software to make it. It's not perfect by any means, but I like how it turned out!

Thanks so much for stopping by and I'll see you soon with another post!

Happy Reading!

  5. I don't think every book has to be the best thing ever written, but as long as you're enjoying it, all is good. Enjoy your weekend!

    1. I agree with you Alicia! It's only when the writing style starts to adversely affect the reading experience that I start getting issues.

  6. I've heard good things about the author but never tried her books, yet:) I'm with Alice. A book doesn't always have to be spectacular for me to enjoy it. Many 3 star reads are among my rereads.

    1. Once you do I hope you love it Lauren! I wouldn't necessarily recommend Brave New Girl for you, though. It was a bit rudimentary unfortunately. Thanks for stopping by! :D
