Waiting on Wednesday #55

Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'll be participating in Waiting on Wednesday, and meme originally created by Jill @ Breaking the Spine. Jill hasn't been active for a while, so Tressa @ Wishful Endings has adopted it! If you see posts by the name of "Can't Wait Wednesday," it's the same thing!

The book I'm highlighting this week is You'll Miss Me When I'm Gone by Rachel Lynn Solomon!
Eighteen-year-old twins Adina and Tovah have little in common besides their ambitious nature. Viola prodigy Adina yearns to become a soloist—and to convince her music teacher he wants her the way she wants him. Overachiever Tovah awaits her acceptance to Johns Hopkins, the first step on her path toward med school and a career as a surgeon.

But one thing could wreck their carefully planned futures: a genetic test for Huntington’s, a rare degenerative disease that slowly steals control of the body and mind. It’s turned their Israeli mother into a near stranger and fractured the sisters’ own bond in ways they’ll never admit. While Tovah finds comfort in their Jewish religion, Adina rebels against its rules.

When the results come in, one twin tests negative for Huntington’s. The other tests positive.

These opposite outcomes push them farther apart as they wrestle with guilt, betrayal, and the unexpected thrill of first love. How can they repair their relationship, and is it even worth saving?

From debut author Rachel Lynn Solomon comes a luminous, heartbreaking tale of life, death, and the fragile bond between sisters.

BOOK REVIEW | Achilles by Greg Boose

Title: Achilles
Author: Greg Boose
Series? Yes, the Deep Sky Saga
Pages: 288
Publication Date: September 26, 2017
Publisher: Diversion Publishing
Source: I received an e-galley of Achilles via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review! All thoughts and opinions are my own. :)
The year is 2221, and humans have colonized an earthlike planet called Thetis in the Silver Foot Galaxy. After a tragic accident kills off dozens of teenage colonists, Thetis's leaders are desperate to repopulate. So the Mayflower 2, a state-of-the-art spaceship, sets off across the universe to bring 177 new recruits to the colony.

For Jonah Lincoln, an orphaned teen who's bounced between foster homes and spent time on the streets of Cleveland, the voyage is a chance to reinvent himself, to be strong and independent and brave the way he could never be on Earth. But his dreams go up in smoke when their ship crash-lands, killing half the passengers and leaving the rest stranded--not on Thetis, but on its cruel and unpeopled moon, Achilles.

Between its bloodthirsty alien life forms and its distance from their intended location, Achilles is far from an ideal resting place. The situation is already dire, but when all of the adults suddenly disappear, leaving the teenage passengers to fend for themselves, Jonah doubts they'll survive at all, much less reach Thetis. Especially when it appears Achilles isn't as uninhabited as they were led to believe.

Waiting on Wednesday #54

Hey everyone and welcome back to my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'll be participating in Waiting on Wednesday, which is also called Can't Wait Wednesday! WoW is now hosted by Tressa @ Wishful Endings! Make sure to check out her blog after this. :)

Today I'll be showcasing American Panda by Gloria Chao, out Feburary 6, 2018!

An incisive, laugh-out-loud contemporary debut about a Taiwanese-American teen whose parents want her to be a doctor and marry a Taiwanese Ivy Leaguer despite her squeamishness with germs and crush on a Japanese classmate.

At seventeen, Mei should be in high school, but skipping fourth grade was part of her parents' master plan. Now a freshman at MIT, she is on track to fulfill the rest of this predetermined future: become a doctor, marry a preapproved Taiwanese Ivy Leaguer, produce a litter of babies.

With everything her parents have sacrificed to make her cushy life a reality, Mei can't bring herself to tell them the truth--that she (1) hates germs, (2) falls asleep in biology lectures, and (3) has a crush on her classmate Darren Takahashi, who is decidedly not Taiwanese.

But when Mei reconnects with her brother, Xing, who is estranged from the family for dating the wrong woman, Mei starts to wonder if all the secrets are truly worth it. Can she find a way to be herself, whoever that is, before her web of lies unravels?

Better Late Than Never? // October Wrap Up!

Hey everyone and welcome back to my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'll be going over all the books I read in October! And yes, it's halfway through November, but I still wanted to do a post dedicated to October.

I only managed to read six books, which really surprised me! I read a lot of short stories and textbook excerpts for school though, and I was way too slammed with schoolwork to focus that much on reading or blogging. Without further ado, here are the books I read this past month!

Waiting on Wednesday #53

Hey everyone and welcome back to my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'll be participating in WoW! Waiting on Wednesday is now handled by Tressa @ Wishful Endings. If you see posts with the name Can't Wait Wednesday, they're the same thing.

Today, I'll be showcasing Save the Date by Morgan Maston!
Father of the Bride meets Sixteen Candles in the latest novel from New York Times bestselling author Morgan Matson.

Charlie Grant’s older sister is getting married this weekend at their family home, and Charlie can’t wait—for the first time in years, all four of her older siblings will be under one roof. Charlie is desperate for one last perfect weekend, before the house is sold and everything changes. The house will be filled with jokes and games and laughs again. Making decisions about things like what college to attend and reuniting with longstanding crush Jesse Foster—all that can wait. She wants to focus on making the weekend perfect.

The only problem? The weekend is shaping up to be an absolute disaster.

There’s the unexpected dog with a penchant for howling, house alarm that won’t stop going off, and a papergirl with a grudge.

There are the relatives who aren’t speaking, the (awful) girl her favorite brother brought home unannounced, and a missing tuxedo.

Not to mention the neighbor who seems to be bent on sabotage and a storm that is bent on drenching everything. The justice of the peace is missing. The band will only play covers. The guests are all crazy. And the wedding planner’s nephew is unexpectedly, distractingly…cute.

Over the course of three ridiculously chaotic days, Charlie will learn more than she ever expected about the family she thought she knew by heart. And she’ll realize that sometimes, trying to keep everything like it was in the past means missing out on the future.

Seafaring prince Dilys Merimydion has been invited to court the three magical princesses of Summerlea. To eradicate the pirates threatening Calberna and to secure the power of the Sea Throne, Dilys vows to return home with a fierce warrior-queen as his bride. But politics has nothing to do with unexpected temptation.

She didn't dare wed him...

A weathermage like her sisters, Gabriella Coruscate's gentleness exemplifies the qualities of her season name, Summer. Yet her quiet poise conceals dangerous powers she cannot begin to wield. When pirates kidnap Summer and her sisters, Dilys is in a desperate quest to save the woman he loves. Only by combining his command of the seas with the unleashed fury of Summer's formidable gifts can they defeat their brutal enemies and claim the most priceless victory of all: true love

Offsetting Penalties by Ally Mathews | BLOG TOUR - Guest Post and GIVEAWAY!

Hey everyone and welcome back to my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'll be participating in a blog tour for Offsetting Penalties by Ally Matthews! If you want to know more of my thoughts on the book, check out my review here!

Isabelle Oster has dreamed of being a prima ballerina her entire life, so when the only male dancer backs out of the fall production, she’s devastated. Without a partner, she has no hope of earning a spot with the prestigious Ballet Americana company. Until hot jock Garret practicing stretches in one of the studios gives Izzy an idea, and she whips out her phone. But does she really want this badly enough to resort to blackmail?

All-state tight end Garret Mitchell will do anything to get a college football scholarship. Even taking ballet, which surprisingly isn’t so bad, because it means he gets to be up close and personal with the gorgeous Goth girl Izzy while learning moves to increase his flexibility. But Izzy needs him to perform with her for the Ballet Americana spot, and he draws the line at getting on stage. Especially wearing tights.
Here are all the lovely links to peruse!

Here is the Tour Schedule!!!

Sci Fi Month 2017!!

Hey everyone and welcome back to my blog! This post is a little late, but I wanted you the know that this month I am participating in Sci-Fi Month! I've participated twice before, and this will be my third year in a row. Sci-Fi Month is hosted by Lisa @ Over the Effing Rainbow and Imyril @ x+1!

This whole month, I'll be focusing on reading science-fiction. As the mood reader I am, I will probably read a mix of genres, but I'm gibing science fiction more attention.

So, here are some of the books I plan on reading this month! I'm also planning on reading some short stories, which I want to do a collective review of.

BOOK REVIEW | First Kiss Hypothesis by Christina Mandelski

Title: First Kiss Hypothesis
Author: Christina Mandelski
Series? No
Publisher: Entangled: Crush
Publication Date: November 6, 2017
Source: I was contacted to read The First Kiss Hypothesis for review. Thank you so much Melissa! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Nora Reid believes scientific laws control everything, even love. With her grandparents’ epic first kiss story cemented in her brain, Nora develops a hypothesis she’s determined to prove:for each person in the world, there is exactly one other person, and at first kiss, they’ll experience an immediate and intense reaction.

But after four years of zero-reaction kisses, she comes up with a new theory: maybe that pesky crush on her stunningly hot best friend Eli Costas is skewing her results.

She needs to get rid of him, and fast.

Eli Costas is an injury-prone lacrosse star with a problem—the one chance he had at winning over the girl next door resulted in the most epically sucktastic first kiss ever. And now she’s…trying to get rid of him? Hell no. It’s time to disprove her theory and show her exactly what she’s missing.
Game. On.

Disclaimer: This book contains a stunningly hot lacrosse player who isn’t above playing dirty to win over the stubborn girl-next-door of his dreams.

Blogging Update!!

Hey everyone and welcome back to my blog! It's been a bit since I've posted (a full week, ahh!), but I have to prioritize schoolwork over this. But, there have been things going behind the scenes for this blog!

First, I was emailed by a team member from Entangled Teen: Crush to review two of their books, Offsetting Penalties by Ally Mathews and The First Kiss Hypothesis by Christina Mandelski. I'm currently reading Offsetting Penalties, and my review will be published on the 2nd. I then have to read First Kiss Hypothesis real quick, and that review will be up on the 5th! There will also be an author guest post on the 10th by Ally Mathews, so be on the lookout for all those posts! I was so elated when I got the email to review these books. I have never been contacted to review; I have always requested, so this was very exciting for me!!

Second, I was auto-approved on Netgalley for Simon & Schuster Children's, which is crazy!! I rarely request from them, simply because I know I will most likely be denied. So it was an utter surprise to see that I was auto-approved, and I'm tickled pink.
Look at that!! Ahh!!

Both of these *events* are just so validating. I love blogging, but seeing comments and seeing people notice my blog makes me actually feel like I'm doing something important. Knowing that I am making an impact, as little as it is, makes me very excited! Hopefully I'll be able to do some deeper and more complex posts soon. Of course I love to talk about books, but I also have other passions, and I want to use this blog to combine all of them together.

So yeah, I just wanted to give you guys an update! It's been a bit since I've just talked about my blogging experience instead of just posting my usual posts, and wanted you to know what's happening! I'm pretty strapped for time 24/7, but I hope to blog more regularly soon. I'm actually writing this during a medieval British Literature class (we're talking about Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, and my attention has disappeared) that is required for my major!

Okay...that's it! (I think!) If anything else happens, I'll be writing another one of these. :D I'm just super happy that both of these things happened, and it spurred a lot of creativity and excitement for this blog!

Well, enough rambling! Thanks so much for stopping by and I'll see you soon with another post!

Happy Reading!
